Video of Italian Tourists on Bangkok Train Reaches Italian Social Media, With Some Calling Their Behaviour “Disgraceful” Bangkok, 24 July 2026 — A video showing an argument between a Thai woman and a group of Italian tourists aboard an urban train in Bangkok continues to circulate widely online. The incident reportedly began when the Thai woman asked the group to lower their voices. An argument followed, during which one Italian woman made a remark to the effect of, “Sorry for bringing money into your country,” before members of the group laughed. Another young man then raised his middle finger toward the camera. The incident prompted widespread criticism in Thailand, particularly regarding how tourists should behave and show respect when visiting another country. The video has now been reposted in the r/Italia community on Reddit under the title “Tourist behaviour in Thailand.” According to a circulated screenshot, the post had received 56 upvotes and approximately 80 comments, indicating that the incident has begun attracting attention within Italian online communities, although it has not yet been reported by major Italian news organisations. One widely noticed comment came from a Reddit account using the name u/Adventurous-Look5451. At the time the screenshot was taken, the comment had been posted around five hours earlier and had received approximately 86 upvotes. The user referred to Italians as “fellow countrymen” and said that, while travelling abroad, they often felt embarrassed by the behaviour of other Italians they encountered. However, the username alone does not reveal the commenter’s real name, age or other personal information. The user described an experience on the Greek island of Alonnisos. At around 8 a.m., while the beach area was still peaceful, with only the sound of cicadas and waves, an Italian man believed to be around 30 years old reportedly stepped onto a balcony and began loudly shouting about his sister refusing to turn on the air conditioning, forcing him to sleep outside. According to the account, the man continued shouting for around ten minutes, disturbing the atmosphere and others nearby. The commenter also recalled tourists of other nationalities joking that they had never realised Italians could be so loud, particularly inside restaurants. Although the user responded that rude people exist in every country, they said that, based on personal experience, many Italian tourists they had encountered while travelling tended to be loud, arrogant and behaved as though paying for a holiday entitled them to treat the destination as their own property. The user concluded that such behaviour was disgraceful and that parents should teach their children to respect other people. However, the statement represents the personal experience and opinion of one Reddit user. It is not statistical evidence and should not be interpreted as representing the views of the entire Italian population. In addition, the text shown in the screenshot was processed through Reddit’s automatic translation system, meaning that some sentences may sound unnatural or differ slightly from the original Italian wording. Discussion in r/Italia has included both users condemning the tourists in the video for damaging the reputation of Italians abroad and others warning against judging an entire nation based on the actions of a small group. Some commenters have also urged people to watch the full video and consider the complete context before reaching conclusions. Overall, however, the discussion shows that the incident aboard the Bangkok train is no longer being criticised only in Thailand. It has now become a subject of debate among Italian social media users themselves.
